MOTHER'S DAY THOUGHTS

MOTHER'S DAY MUSINGS

I am sitting here in my childhood hometown (for those of you who do not know, Cedartown, GA, which I also refer to as God's Country.) I have been riding around with my older brother, John, looking at the old hangouts and talking of happy and poignant times in our memories. I am sure that my nephew, Chris, has been rolling his eyes at the two old folks in the front seat! We are here because our mother, Dot Hunt, is being honored by having a chapter of The Daughters of the King, a prayer and service organization in the Episcopal Church, named for her. We are humbled and proud of this honor to her. Some of you may be aware that the store's logo was drawn by her many years before the shop was born. She kindly shared it with me along with her many sewing and embroidering talents, and I proudly use it. Thank you , Mama.

MOTHER'S DAY SPECIALS

Rose and I have just returned from Nashville where the 9600, our latest Elna Embroidery/Sewing Machine was released. Wow, what fun we had. Please come by to see all of the capabilities that it has for sewing. Of course it has Elna's exclusive stitches especially for heirloom sewing. It also embroiders, appliques, and has wonderful quilting programs with an extended arm length for those big quilt projects. We also brought back the newest version of our digitizer; you will be amazed at the ease in its use. For those of you who do not have an Elna, it will work with most other brands of embroidery machines.

We will have special pricing on all of our machines through MOTHER'S DAY, so come see not only our new baby, but all of our other wonderful machines. Pick yours out and get special pricing; we will even gift wrap it and call your Honey to remind him to pick it up!

Happy Mother's Day from all of us.

Look What's New

As the mom of a little boy, I drool over new patterns for the little guys because there are so few. I have been waiting for this one! Nancy Coburn of Ginger Snaps Designs came out with the Cameron last year that I love (it has a rounded peter pan collar). I was excited to see that she included both long and short pants in her pattern, Hudson's Sunday Suit. This shorts style is my absolute favorite for church or when you want a waistband that isn't completely elastic. I really like the tucked shirt view on here and can't wait to make it for my little guy. I made a shirt similar to the other view using my Cameron pattern as a guide. If you are looking for a new boys pattern, I highly recommend this one! When I make it, I will post a picture of my outfit.

NEW FABRICS

We received a shipment of fabric from Fabric Finders this week~always fun! We have a new bolt of the ladybugs that we had earlier in the season as well as the pink floral twill. We reordered the bubble fish, too, but it will be a couple of weeks before it gets here. Below are some other pieces that came in. We will gladly ship to you if you are unable to come for a visit!

We want to thank Darby again at Fly Through Our Window for the wonderful post on her blog! We have enjoyed talking to several of Darby's followers either by phone or via email. Unfortunately, we are out of the wagon fabric that Darby featured and are unable to reorder it. We do have several other precious "boy" pieces and will be happy to help you with one of those.

Hope to see or hear from you soon~ Happy Sewing!

Some Favorite Tools

I realized over the weekend when I was sewing that we have posted about fabrics and patterns but not sewing notions. These are some of MY favorite tools we have in the shop:

Handi-bobs are wonderful for keeping
bobbins and matching spools of thread
together for easy storage. Comes in a
package of 3.

Gingher Scissors have to be the best scissors ever! The G-7 or G-8 is great for cutting out your garment. The G-5 is our most popular and Mary's favorite! The blunt-nosed Gingher is perfect for lace-trimming. You can't go wrong with any of these!

The 6" C-Thru Ruler is small enough to work in small areas and has accurate 1/8" markings. Great for marking buttonholes and for use with your sewing machine.

The Mist-It Sprayer is perfect for controlled spraying water on small areas.

The Clover Seam Ripper is the best! It cuts your threads without snagging.

You might say I'm a fanatic about corners. This Point Turner and Seam Creaser from Collins is the best I have found to push out corners and smooth the seams.

**** Between now and Saturday, April 17, mention seeing these notions on the blog and get 20% off ! No special orders~in stock items only. Remember: You can order by email or by phone if you are unable to visit the shop!

Happy Sewing!
