Cuddly Dresses and Pants

How about a soft, cuddly dress or pair of pants for Valentine's Day? We still have cuddle cloth (minkee) in pink, red, white, chocolate, and light blue. The pink and red would be perfect for a little girl's dress for Valentine's Day. I know a little boy who LOVES his red cuddly pants! Paired with one of our tees, they are the perfect outfit for these cool days!
And don't forget, between now and Valentine's Day, you can get the pink and red 20% off!

Hope to see you soon....Happy Sewing!

CLASS SCHEDULE

Don't forget to sign up for our upcoming classes!

The Beginning Smocking Class has been delayed one week. It will begin THIS Thursday, Jan. 29 and will meet for a total of 3 nights. You still have time to sign up. Tami Stanford is the teacher. This plate will be used to learn the smocking stitches:

Tami is also teaching the other classes currently on the schedule.

The Beginning Sewing Class is scheduled for Thursday, February 11, from 10-2. The cost is $30.00 excluding materials. In this class, you will be using the following pattern:

This is a "girl" pattern but is easily adapted for boys! (In fact, I've made 3 pair of boy pants using this pattern and love it!) It also has a shorts view and is available in sizes 3mos. to 8.

Tami's Picture Smocking Class is Saturday, March 6. The time is 10-2 and cost is $30.00. Your project will be the following plate and you will need to know what size garment you plan to sew your insert into so it can be tied off before class.

Tami is also teaching an applique class on Saturday, February 20 from 10-1. Cost is $30.00.

Sally is also planning a Shadow Work Embroidery Class but we don't have the dates yet. If you would like to pre-register for that class, we will add your name to the list and contact you with the dates and time when it is set.

For all classes, please come by or call the shop at 334.793.8233 to pre-register. We ask that you do this at least one week in advance. If we don't have enough in a class, sometimes we have to cancel or reschedule classes.

Cute Ideas for Spring

This adorable twirl skirt from Sew Sensible is great now with tights and goes right into spring and summer with sandals and a tee! We have some wonderful coordinating fabrics coming in that would be perfect for this pattern!

The Sandbox Pant for Oliver+S is a great option for boys AND girls! For the girls, you could curve the front pockets and add a fun trim;
shorten to capri lenghth for spring and summer. Fabric options: solid
and printed twills and cottons.

Both of these "bottoms" would work well with the great tees we offer! Ask about them when you visit!!!!

Something new this year......a blog!

Welcome to our blog! We hope to post updates about new merchandise, trunk shows and events, and sales here. It is our hope that you will save us under your favorites and check in frequently. Please be patient with us as we forge into this new venture!

Annual 1752 Company Lace Show

This Friday and Saturday, January 8 and 9, 2010, the Smock Shoppe will welcome Elizabeth from The 1752 Company. In her trunk show, Elizabeth will have the exquisite English netting laces, as well as some beautiful antique laces, fabrics and other specialty pieces. This is the perfect time to begin planning for Easter and spring pageants......Easter is April 4th and it's never too busy to start sewing!

The Maja's Heirlooms Trunk Show is still hanging in the shop and we hope you will stop by if you haven't seen the wonderful designs she is offering in her line of patterns. Because of the late arrival of the show, she has graciously allowed us to keep it longer than usual. We love the pants in her line and there are many cute tops!

Maja's Sophie top pattern

After the 1752 Trunk Show, we will be attending the spring market in Birmingham. We can't wait to see what's new in fabrics, patterns, and plates to bring back to you!
